Biography:

Scott Charlesworth-Seiler has taught for more than 30 years in second through eighth grades, spending most of his time in fifth and sixth. He also was a guest instructor for graduate education students at Hamline University in interdisciplinary instruction. Mr. C- S, as he is know by his students, has a varied list of teaching experiences which include: multi-age classes, gifted and talented math, remedial math, self-contained classes, and at an arts focused magnet school. He taught for two years in Texas and three in Germany, where he was employed by the US Department of Defense. In 2008, he was granted a sabbatical leave which he used to teach English in Quzhou, China. 

Mr. Charlesworth-Seiler earned his elementary education bachelor’s degree from the University of Minnesota and his master of arts degree from St. Mary's University. Scott has hosted student teachers from Augsburg, Hamline, and St Thomas. Charlesworth-Seiler earned National Board Certification for Teaching.

Outside of school Mr. C-S enjoys spending time with his wife (also a teacher) and two college-aged daughters (ages 18 and 20). Charlesworth-Seiler has created a reading program in North Minneapolis barber shops called Boys, Books, and Barber Shops. He volunteers for Store to Door. He has served on the Human Rights Commission for the city of Golden Valley. He has volunteered with the Hennepin County Juvenile Justice System (tutoring incarcerated youth) and has regularly assisted with child care at the Minneapolis Crisis Nursery.

In 2012, Charlesworth-Seiler was named to the National Teachers Hall of Fame, one of five teachers chosen from across the country and the first ever from Minnesota.
