Thank you for visiting my page. My name is Monique El-Hani and I am the ESL teacher at Lucy Laney, as well as three other schools in Minneapolis. I obtained my Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Mass Communication, specializing in Public Relations, from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. I obtained my Master's degree from the University of St. Thomas as well.
Growing up in a family where a second language was prevalent and culture was a very important part of daily life, I am able to connect on a different level with students who are learning to speak social English and understand/utilize academic English. Over the years, I have been able to use my experiences with students in order to provide trainings to colleagues, education professionals, community members and volunteers across Minnesota and within the Minneapolis area . I have also worked within the MPS Multilingual Department and have helped create assessment standards with WIDA and the Center for Applied Linguisitcs in Washington, D.C.
In my spare time, I enjoy motorcycles, live music, boating, cooking and baking, long walks, traveling and spending time with my family and friends.
I can be reached via e-mail at monique.el-hani@mpls.k12.mn.us or on Twitter @moniqueMLD.
I look forward to a positive and successful year at Lucy Laney!
